Data SheetsBSCCO 2-2-2-3 (SCP 99.9%) PowdersScope:This product data sheet characterizes Bismuth Strontium Calcium Copper (BSCCO-2223) SCP-99.9% precursor powders produced by SCI Engineered Materials (SCI). The following information is not a specification; however, it may prove useful to the customer in developing a formal product specification. General Description:SCI offers BSCCO 2223 precursor powder produced by an ultrasonically assited co-precipitation method. The powder primarily consists of an homogeneous mixture of (Bi,Pb)-2212, CaCu2O3 and CuO. Customized stochiometry and doping are available upon request. However, depending on the solubility limit of Pb in Bi-2212 some Ca2PbO4 may form in the precursor. In the ultrasonically assisted co-precipitation method, soluble metallic compounds (usually nitrates) are dissolved in aqueous solvent and then precipitated from the liquid phase in an ultrasonic horn. The anion solution is used to simultaneously precipitate the cation species as carbonates and/or hydroxides. Intimately mixed, low carbon content precursor powder is finally obtained by using a low pressure calcination method. The low processing temperatures employed in this method results in powders with fine particle size. Further, the homogeneously mixed precursors increases the reaction rates during calcination. The precursor is prepared from 99.9% purity Bi2O3, PbO, SrCO3, CaCO3, Cu(NO3)2 dissolved in HNO3 acid. Powders prepared using this process are more chemically homogenous and exhibit finer particle sizes than powders prepared using the traditional solid state method. The typical x-ray diffraction pattern, thermal analysis, and properties are given below.
Handling Instructions:To maintain a low carbon level, it is recommended that the powders be handled only under a carbon free atmosphere. Other handling instructions are included in the enclosed MSDS sheet. |
